with love

dear blogger, i must confess...i've been cheating on you! her name is wordpress and though she does not allow me the instant gratification of changing her html or css without paying extra, she does offer me trackbacks, pingbacks and really cool clickable live images of linked sites. please believe me that it is by no means you, it is me. you've been great to me and our history will live on both on this site as well as on my new blog. i will never forget you, you were my first official blog and you showed me nothing but support, dedication and love. i wish you only the best.

with love,

this is definitely for the design geek in us all. if you find that working with cs4 (or for those still using cs3) while you're awake is simply not enough, then you should definitely check out these pillows inspired by the entire creative suite. i gotta admit that im kinda feeling after effects and illustrator....so they might end up on my xmas list this year.

Designed by 5.5 Designers, the appropriately titled "iamaKey" "itsaKey" and "passKey" usb drives functionally helps prevent the very frequent and horrific dilemma of a lost or misplaced flashdrive by turning it into a key. Obviously if one were to lose their keys altogether they would be SOL, but this is definitely a stylish step in the right direction.

This series of posters was done to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Cuba's revolution. Along the same vein as much of the highly popular and currently relevant (a la Shephard Fairey) propaganda and cuban poster art, graphic artist José Papiol Torrent showcased each letter as its own poster incorporating relevant imagery and photography reflecting the revolution.

happy earth day

Dear Earth,

Through my species frivolous, inconsiderate and wasteful ways, we have pulluted your oceans, depleted your ozone and deforested your beautiful jungles. Though, we have left you permanently scarred by our endless amounts of metal, concrete and starbucks, please believe that there has been a conscious change rising to the surface for a long time now and accept my apology on behalf of my kind. Unfortunately, the damage may never fully be repaired however, we are finally headed in the right direction, one as clear as your summer skies and one that will ensure the future will too understand that analogy. So on this day, we honor you and say thank you for all that you provide, for without you there would be no us.

The Dot and the Line: A Romance in Lower Mathematics follows the story of a straight line that is enamored with a dot. The key factor in how the animator was able to humanize these characters along with the love story was to use descriptive characteristics, both positive and negative, as well as provide the characters with strong human emotions from insecurity to desire.

Introduced as the “sensible” straight line, he views his complete opposite the dot, as “perfect from beginning to end.” He muscles up enough courage to approach the dot, only to be rejected with such cruel words as “stiff, unconventional, stifled, repressed” as his love frolics with a “wild, fun and uninhibited” squiggle.

Left “rejected, depressed and unhappy”, he tries his hardest to change. After a while he discovers that he can bend into angles, eventually allowing him to create complex shapes, curves and ellipses. After mastering this ability he decides to reproach his love, this time with confidence. He is now viewed as “enlightened, eloquent, profound, and complex.” This shift in her view is coupled with the shift in which she views the squiggle, now “hairy, coarse and graceless.”

The initial rejection and subsequent change of the line in order to please or impress the dot, is a theme, which we have seen in love stories for decades. More so, depicting the Line with a struggle and ultimate self-discovery of his greatness is also a testament to the importance of determination, dedication and self-acceptance. For it is only after this, that he wins her over and they live happily ever after, “or at least reasonably so.”

I noticed that sprint was beginning to incorporate a new look and feel for their branding when i stumbled upon their NOW widget site live here. With consistent updates on virtually everything as it's happening now, it is definitedly very interesting and cool.

This whole now concept was then introduced to the world via their latest commercial, just as interesting and slightly more cool. Overall their take on now is definitely cutting edge and injects sprint with a much needed cool factor.

which side are you on?
Ben Heine

Pessimist or Optimist?

Admittedly, I have pondered this question on and off for years and, depending on my age, emotional and financial status, at any given time, the answer has varied. Though, I have always strived to reject “labels” I must admit that I have considered myself both a pessimist and optimist and on several occasions considered myself to be some sort of hybrid of the two. The debate over the glass being half full or half empty is something that I could have passionately argued on either side.

When I think back to my early adolescence I can definitely say that I considered myself to be a pessimist. However, I would have fought tooth and nail to my defense of being a “realist, not a pessimist.” Whether it was due to raging hormones or my consistent battle with depression, it was difficult for me to see any silver lining and would view any resemblance of a happy ending as a curse waiting to reveal itself. Having several views surrounding politics and religion that differed from the norm at the time, it was difficult for me to be optimistic.

I do feel that with age and experience I have gained more perspective as to the outcome of the world, and more specifically as to my view of the world. I have learned that one's take on the world, be it negative or positive, can and does shape one's daily live. Individuals who make it a point to see a silver lining, or alternately those who have a negative outlook, in many ways manifest that very outcome. I have seen several friends and family either flourish or flounder their talents and lives as a direct result to this outlook.

Today, I would still consider myself a realist, but with much more of an optimistic overturn. I have lived enough to understand that ultimately life is what you make it. Regardless of your effort, drive, ambition or lack there of, the years will continue to roll by, and you can either embrace that or unsuccessfully attempt to fight it. In any case, it is up to us to determine where we are 3 years from now, we can choose to be in a more positive place or far worse off. Though life will definitely brings hardships out of our control, we can control how we are affected by it. Therefore, realistically there is a silver lining in that we grow from these hardships and can apply this growth towards a better tomorrow.

the new safari 4 beta download is available for download here. and among sum of the tweaks are a new tab appearance, and cover flow view for quite literally everything including internet history and booksmarks. but the creme de la creme is what i have lovingly deemed command central, a stacked grid-like view of your top sites!

not only can you add, delete and rearrange said top sites, you can also customize the view from large, medium and small, which basically increases or decreases the amount of sites viewable on the page. pretty awesome!
