safari 4 beta

the new safari 4 beta download is available for download here. and among sum of the tweaks are a new tab appearance, and cover flow view for quite literally everything including internet history and booksmarks. but the creme de la creme is what i have lovingly deemed command central, a stacked grid-like view of your top sites!

not only can you add, delete and rearrange said top sites, you can also customize the view from large, medium and small, which basically increases or decreases the amount of sites viewable on the page. pretty awesome!

audiotistic

so audiotistic is back and on the reezy i had no idea this was still going on! i mean i kinda thought the rave scene died with the 90's...but anyway 2 of the bands that should have been at coachella (chromeo and does it offend you, yeah?) have went ahead and joined the audiotistic line up. sooo...i just might find myself working on my 2 step very very soon.

apple netbook (?)

so once again the web is a buzz with rumors of apple's long suspected touchscreen netbook. this thing has long been rumored, but recently received some sort of credibilty via the dow jones newswire. but as is the case with apple, who has denied being able to produce a mac under a grand, there really is no telling. but that has not stopped people from mocking up some possible designs.
so here are 2 of my faves.

crazy am

last night i did mad hw, had stinky workin on a paper, slept like 2 hours, only to wake up to see stinky STILL workin on said paper! after packin up my ish and already late, i headed to skool. just as im bouts to jump on the 605, i turn right on a red and get rolled by a po.

now obviously i did sumthing illegal, but really tho, not only am i clearly a broke ass as is evident by both the exterior and interior of my hooptie, but im also a student as is evident by my lovelife bag sitting next to me on the passenger side, so why not give a brotha a break!? i mean i can easily just be let off with a warning, but unfortunately my titties are just a wee bit on the small side.

so not only did the ticket process delay me an extra 15 minutes, i arrive at skool only to find out that my teacher is not here. instead there's a note taped to the wall explaining today's lame assignment and making it very clear that all the mad hw including the now infamous paper will be collected next week! ain't that about a bitch.

rockband: the beatles

so the much talked about and highly anticipated rockband: beatles game has offically begun it's marketing campaign. now the debate as to whether this game is too little too late is irrelevant, however what IS relevant is my ass needing to buy a gaming system asap!

unfortunately i be pobre and shite and unless that game is coming out for sega or old skool nintendo, imma have to sell sum ass or sum ish cuz rockin out to the beatles rockband style is just too amazing to pass up!

eye spy

a prosthetic eye with a built in camera is sum crazy ish! the appropriately named eyeborg project is working on a prosthetic eye for 36-year-old filmmaker rob spense. with sum of the the smallest and most effiecient tech available today the eye camera will capture and send video signal wirelessly to an rf transmitter the size of a tip of pencil. Rob and team are currently working on a doc about the project and experience of living with a bionic eye.

la lupe

late night sumtime last year, i came across an extremely interesting pbs doc on the cuban singer la lupe. not only was i blown away by her immense talent and torturous life, i was also equally shocked that as a cuban i had never heard of her. while watching the doc i began to understand why that was, and how a rival singer by the name of celia cruz finally got the leg up and took la lupe's place in cuban music history.

since viewing that doc, la lupe, her story and her music have always randomly popped into my head. this morning was just one of those random times.

helvetica

just caught a very interesting doc on the history and usage of the typeface, helvetica. tho you may not know it by name you have definitely seen it. since its creation in the late 50's it has become the ubiquitous typeface of corporations and designers alike. it has become the default type used for virtually everything, from subway signage to american apparel and beyond.

with interviews from the whose who of the design world, the doc takes an interesting look into the journey and proliferation of this type, and examines the pros and cons of its wide spread appeal. tho the debate continues as to the emotional response derived from it, there is no denying the significance it holds in our society today.

type

typography has become one of my greatest passions within the last year. however when i think back to my youth i find that i have always been fascinated with type. from creating several day-care holiday banners to elaborately decorating envelopes and letters veterano style, type has been with me for a long time. and this is why i consider myself very fortunate to actually study it's origins, use and power.

currently, i am studying the power of moving type. specifically the mood and emotion that it conveys and its ability to tell a story within itself, as demonstrated masterfully by graphic designer saul bass. responsible for the design of animated motion picture title sequences for films like psycho and north by northwest, his impact on both typography and film is indelible and echoed by many artists and filmmakers a like.

below are a few examples of the power and beauty of moving type which not only showcase the ingenuity of great design but also act as a testament to the mark that saul bass left on the creative world.
